Behind the Scenes of History
A visual magic carpet ride through the eyes of Pulitzer Prize winning photographer David Hume Kennerly as he documented some of the major events of the last seven decades. From the night Robert Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968, to the battlefields of Vietnam, the hearing rooms of Watergate, the resignation of President Richard Nixon and swearing-in of President Gerald Ford.
It also includes intimate images with Ford as he ended the Vietnam War; Egyptian President Sadat’s historic trip to Israel; inside Reagan and Gorbachev’s Fireside Summit in Geneva; in the room with George W. Bush as the 2000 election ended in a tie; riding with President and Mrs. Barack Obama in an elevator on their first Inaugural night, Trump the night he won the presidential election, Biden in the White House, and the January 6th hearings. Kennerly was there for all of that and more, and will take you along with him on his journey.

David Hume KennerlyDavid Hume Kennerly, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, achieved acclaim at 25 for his Vietnam War coverage. Appointed Chief White House Photographer by President Ford in 1974, he documented eleven U.S. presidents.
Kennerly, a Lucie Award recipient, contributed to Time, Life, and Newsweek, and authored books like “Shooter” and “Extraordinary Circumstances.” In 2019, the University of Arizona acquired his archive, and he became the university’s first Presidential Scholar. A Canon Legends member, he received the 2015 Lucie Award for photojournalistic excellence.
