Retrospectives and Perspectives: from Studio to Contemporary Photography

The continent’s photography is increasingly attracting attention through its presence in the world’s leading museums, galleries, fairs and biennials. Galerie Medina celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Rencontres de Bamako with the exhibition Bamako Dreams 30, where for the very first time the most prominent works from the continent will be shown in the Gulf and more precisely in Sharjah.

The first stars of African photography were revealed to the world in 1994 at the Rencontres de Bamako, Biennale Africaine de la Photographie. In November 2024, the 14th edition of the biennial will put the concepts of a word, speech, silence and noise under scrutiny. In the presence of the artists, let’s delve into the continental creativity that contemplates the relationship between dreams and reality, spoken and visual. Let’s start talking.
