Pascal Maitre (born 1955, Buzançais – France)
After studying psychology, Pascal Maitre began his career as a photojournalist in 1979 with Groupe Jeune Afrique. In 1984, he joined the staff of the Gamma agency., he is a Member of VII Foundation.
Pascal Maitre has worked with prestigious international publications: Géo, Paris Match, Figaro Magazine, L’Express, ELLE in France, Géo and Stern in Germany, and National Geographic in the United States…
BIBLIOGRAPHY
– 2000 “Mon Afrique”, published by Aperture in New York and Géo in Hamburg. A year later, the French edition was published by Vents de Sable in Paris.

In more than forty countries, he covers different aspects of Africa: people and their way of life, politics and conflicts, traditions.
Since 1985, he has covered Afghanistan: the Mujahideen against the Russians, Kabul in 1992, Bamiyan and the Great Buddhas in 1996, Commander Massoud in 1998, the return of the Taliban 2022….
While Africa remains his preferred terrain, Pascal Maitre has also produced several photo essays on other parts of the world: the Middle East, South America, Siberia…
He also works on in-depth projects including: “How 650 million people live without electricity in Africa”, “The Sahel in danger and the Peuls”, “2.5 billion people need charcoal every day to cook and feed themselves”.
