“In the dark days of darkness, the future of humanity lies in a light with adequate brightness. To me, a photograph is a source of light whose luminosity is capable of transforming darkness to brightness.” Born on 12th November, 1996 in Gombe, Northeast Nigeria, Abdulmalik Muhammad Auwal can most aptly be described as a photographer who discovered light in darkness. Following his graduation from high school in 2014, he pursued his passion for Medicine and Surgery at the esteemed Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. In 2020, during the dark days of restrictions of movement and social distancing, Abdulmalik unearthed his fervor for photography. Ignited by curiosity and propelled by an unquenchable thirst for photography expertise, he cultivated skills that culminated to the development of his award-winning masterpiece titled “Restriction of Movement and Social Distancing”, which was published in October 2020. Subsequently, he has established a distinctive niche for himself in the realm of conceptual photography.
Creativity and innovation serve as the lifeblood of his photography, akin to the essence that flesh and blood provide to a skeleton. Through creativity, he offers a unique vantage point to contemporary issues. His works transcends mere visual artistry; but rather stories woven with threads of light and darkness. Stories of resilience, hope and introspection. Stories waiting to be unraveled by those who dare to look beyond the surface. Each frame serve as a mirror to society, reflecting both its flaws and its beauty in equal measure.
Beneath the surface of his visually stunning compositions lies a profound depth that reflects Abdulmalik’s passions for art and medicine. He seamlessly weaves together the worlds of light and shadow, creating a symphony that echoes the precision and artistry of a surgeon.
As he continues to explore the boundless possibilities of photography, Abdulmalik remains steadfast in his commitment to illuminating the world with his unique perspective. Through his lens, he invites us to see beyond the shadows, to embrace the light that resides within us and to explore the intricate dance between light and shadow. In a universe where darkness looms large, Abdulmalik’s photographs remind us that even in the darkest of times, there is always a flicker of light waiting to be discovered. Superficial in texture, deep in composition. Undoubtedly, Abdulmalik have demonstrated that behind the scene of the dance of light and shadow, lies a symphony of scalpel and stethoscope.
