Amy Selwyn, an artist currently based on the east coast of the United States (Portsmouth, New Hampshire) specializes in creating refracted portraits constructed from memory and myth, using photography, storytelling, performance and alternative processes.
Selwyn’s work asserts, I am here. Simultaneously expanding and compressing time, the portraits insist on the continuity of presence, racross time and space. She is deeply concerned with the loss of personal history in a digital world that insists on constant reinvention.
Selwyn works in both lens-based work and in alternative processes, including photography in mercury glass. She has also been working in generative AI. Selwyn was cited by FRAMES Magazine as one of eight women artists to watch in the AI space.
Selwyn has been a regular guest lecturer for graduate students at Pratt Institute (NYC) on topics ranging from Decolonization of the Museum Wall to Generative AI and Social Justice Movements. This past spring, Selwyn co-taught an MFA-level class for Maine Media College, “Generative AI and the Creative Process.” She is a regular speaker on the intersection of culture, identity and art.
