Edwin Ndeke

A Nairobi native born in Kibera Slums, Edwin is an insider community photographer. He turned to photography to depict his community as he sees it, transcending the stereotypical narratives of suffering portrayed by outsiders. While acknowledging the hardships, Edwin aims to showcase everyday life, which tells a truer story of Africa. His work has been featured in renowned publications like The Guardian, BBC, Time, Aljazeera & local press. Currently, he contributes to The Guardian and Anadolu news agency.

Edwin is one of the 2023/2024 Emerging lens Fellow. Emerging Lens is ART WORKS Projects’ signature program that awards project support, unrestricted grants, and mentorship to emerging photographers working to document social justice and human rights issues in their own backyards and around the world. Currently working on a waste pickers project about their impact in mitigating climate change but them not receiving the recognition they deserve.
