Laura Zalenga - Xposure

Laura Zalenga

After discovering photography in 2007, Laura Zalenga initially studied architecture in Munich before fully dedicating herself to photography. She gained international recognition for her creative self-portraits and distinctive visual language. Through her work, she explores social themes such as beauty ideals, mental health, and climate change, often using her own body as a medium of expression.
Zalenga consciously moves beyond the traditional self-portrait, employing elements of closeness, distance, concealment, and abstraction to create imagery that feels intimate yet anonymous. Despite the clarity and precision of her visuals, her work evokes deep emotional resonance.
She has collaborated with major brands including Adobe, Disney, Facebook, Huawei, and Sony. With a strong presence on social media, Zalenga is among the young photographers shaping contemporary visual culture.

Zalenga’s photography has been exhibited in Berlin, Munich, Paris and Zurich, and has been featured in publications such as ELLE, Kinfolk Magazine, and Ignant. She was a participant in Sky Arts’ Master of Photography and has worked with major brands including Adobe, Disney, Facebook, Huawei, and Sony.

In 2019, Zalenga was selected as one of only seven Adobe Creative Residents worldwide. During this residency, she created ‘Invisible Beauty of Age’, a project for which she interviewed and photographed 35 elderly people. She did long interviews with them, collecting quotes that reflected their immense wisdom and creating a series of powerful documentary portraits. Through her work, Zalenga continues to explore meaningful themes, using photography as a tool for deeper reflection and societal commentary.
