Mohammad Rakibul Hasan is a Bangladeshi-born documentary photographer/filmmaker and visual artist/journalist working at the intersection of humanitarian storytelling and social justice. With over two decades of experience, his practice spans in-depth social issues. Hasan contributes to international media, including the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Al Jazeera, ZUMA Press, IPS, Le Monde, and The Daily Star. Educated at ICP New York, Falmouth University, Oxford University, Ateneo de Manila, and the University of Sydney, he has received significant awards, including the Lucie Award and the One World Media Award.
Hasan has been nominated for numerous international awards and has won hundreds of photographic competitions worldwide, including the Lucie Award, One World Media Awards, Human Rights Press Award, Allard Photography Prize, and PX3 Prix de la Photographie. His photography projects have been exhibited internationally at major platforms such as Photo Basel, Shanghai Photo Festival, NordArt Festival, Berlin Photo Festival, Belgrade Photo Month Festival, Indian Photo Festival, and, more recently in 2025, at the PhotoVogue Festival in Italy, Wiesbaden Photo Days in Germany, and other European gallery exhibitions focused on climate change and social justice.
His documentary films have received wide international recognition. The Taste of Honey won Best Documentary at the Terni International Film Festival (Italy) and received multiple international awards and official selections, while Forget-Me-Not was similarly celebrated for its focus on women’s rights and social resilience. Hasan has directed more than seventy humanitarian documentary films for international non-profit organizations, addressing issues of public health, gender justice, climate change, and development.
Hasan holds a One-Year Certificate in Creative Practices from the International Center of Photography (ICP), New York; a BA (Honours) and Postgraduate Certificate in Photography from Falmouth University; an Undergraduate Certificate in Art History and Philosophy from Oxford University; a Postgraduate Diploma in Photojournalism from Ateneo de Manila University; and a Film and Video Production degree from the University of Sydney. He works as a visual journalist for ZUMA Press, Redux Pictures, IPS, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, and has collaborated with organizations including WHO, UN Women, Oxfam, the Red Cross, the World Bank, ADB, and WaterAid. His work is represented by °CLAIR Galerie, Switzerland.
Mohammad Rakibul Hasan’s practice extends across books, films, and exhibitions. His bilingual book Subject: Photography and Others (সাবজেক্ট: ফটোগ্রাফি ও অন্যান্য) explores photography, visual culture, and documentary ethics. He has contributed book chapters and visual essays to curatorial and academic publications on climate change, migration, and humanitarian crises, and develops projects such as The Blue Fig, Wave, and The Odyssey of Little Mermaids as book-length visual research. Hasan has directed over seventy humanitarian documentary films, including the award-winning The Taste of Honey and Forget-Me-Not. His work has been exhibited globally at Photo Basel, NordArt, Berlin Photo Festival.
