Mission Blue
Talia Greis
What propels us to dive? We dive to observe a world beyond gravity, surrounded by creatures only imagined in books.
I was reminded of the dreamtime tales of Australia’s first nations people. Indigenous Australians’ connection with nature has fostered stable environmental practices passed down through generations.
Colonisation disrupted Australia’s spiritual system, leading to the decline of our oceans through overfishing, resource extraction, and coastal development.
We need to protect our oceans because we are suffering.
As an underwater photographer, I witness the struggle of Australian marine life every day. I aim not to reprimand, but to show the beauty of the ocean.
I want to open a visual dialogue that will draw my viewers into the depths of our oceans and create a connection.
Species like Humpback Whales and Leafy Seadragons have recovered from near extinction through determination and conservation.
In 50 years, we've lost 68% of wild animals on Earth. I invite you to take a moment and recognize the fragility of Australia’s ocean creatures.
As an underwater photographer, I aim to restore our kinship with nature.
This is my mission blue.
