Guardians of Time: Journeys Through Sacred Landscapes

Derry Brabbs

This exhibition traces a journey through places where landscape and faith, memory and movement meet. From the abbeys, castles and coastlines of Britain to cathedrals and hill towns in France, Spain and Italy, and onward to dramatic escarpments in South Africa, these photographs explore how belief and belonging are written into terrain.

Pilgrim routes, river crossings and defensive high ground become waypoints in a long conversation between people and place. Light reveals stone pared by weather, paths scored by footsteps, and vistas that still guide travellers today.

Rather than a single national story, the work follows a broader arc, illustrating how sacred topography resonates across regions and cultures. The result is a visual map of resilience and reverence, where history remains present, and the land continues to shape how we gather, remember and move.
