Abraham Joffe
Abraham Joffe ACS is an award-winning director, producer, and cinematographer working across natural history, documentary, and investigative storytelling. Over the course of more than two decades, he has filmed on all seven continents, telling visually rich stories about humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
He founded Untitled Film Works in Sydney in 2000, building a reputation for innovative filmmaking that aims to make a positive impact.
From 2014 to 2018, Abraham produced and directed three seasons of Tales by Light, a behind the lens photography series that later streamed globally on Netflix. In 2017 he was named Australian Cinematographer of the Year by the Australian Cinematographers Society for work that included Tales by Light. He has filmed in over fifty countries and across all continents, leading teams in remote and demanding environments.
A skilled underwater camera operator with 25 years of diving experience and a licensed drone pilot, Abraham’s practical field expertise supports safe and creative problem-solving. Through Untitled Film Works, he develops stories with conservationists, scientists, and communities, using new techniques and clean narrative to connect audiences with urgent environmental themes.
Abraham served as producer, director, and cinematographer on the Netflix global series Our Oceans, leading the episode on the Southern Ocean, which Barack Obama narrated. Released worldwide in late 2024, the series blended scientific insight with cinematic ambition to show the fragility and resilience of our seas, and the Southern Ocean chapter earned wide acclaim for its storytelling and imagery.
In 2025, he and his team released their debut feature, Trade Secret, a six-year investigation filmed across nine countries that uncovers the secretive trade in polar bear skins. The film has received multiple awards, including the Golden Panda at the Wildscreen Festival. It continues to build momentum on the international circuit, reflecting its commitment to evidence-led, impactful storytelling.
Abraham is an experienced expedition leader and certified drone pilot with twenty-five years of diving practice. He works confidently in polar, oceanic, and desert environments, coordinating small and large crews with meticulous safety planning. His collaborations span scientists, conservation groups, and investigative journalists, aligning cinematic craft with rigorous fieldwork. He is comfortable with emerging capture systems, remote logistics, and rapid turnaround delivery, and remains focused on ethical storytelling that informs, inspires, and leads to tangible action.
