Christina Kalligianni is a photographer and the Project Coordinator of Athens Photo World the annual photojournalism festival of Athens.
She holds a PhD from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences on the extent to which photojournalism can influence the public’s comprehension of historical facts from the middle of the 20th century until the refugee and migration crisis in the Mediterranean sea in 2016
Christina Kalligianni studied photography in Athens and is a professional photographer since 2002, following her studies of Law at the University of Athens and her LLM in Environmental Law and Conservation at the University of Kent at Canterbury (UK). For a short time she was a trainee at the Reuters Office in Athens in the run-up to the 2004 Olympic Game, and for many years after she focused on travel photography, offering both images and copy in the travel insets of two leading Greek newspapers.
Between 2011 and 2016 she ran her own studio, concentrating in portraiture, whilst also offering a commercial and industrial portfolio.
She has been as a review editor for the Greek photographic magazines PHOTOnet and PHOTOnet Professional in Greece.
In 2016 she joined the organizing team of MEdpHOTO festival (international documentary photography festival) as the Project Coordinator and in 2018 she joined the team of Athens Photo World (international photojournalism festival) at the same position which she currently holds.
Her personal work is mostly portraiture and street photography
Christina Kalligianni has worked as a travel photographer offering both images and copy in the travel insets of two leading Greek newspapers. She has presented her travel photography in a personal exhibition in 2005.
Between 2011 and 2016 she ran her own studio, concentrating in portraiture.
She has been a review editor for the leading photographic magazine PHOTOnet and PHOTOnet Professional in Greece.
Her present role as project coordinator for Athens Photo World provides a constant communication with important Greek and international photographers and photojournalists.
She has translated two photography books and she is the author of one (“Contemporary photojournalism, Presence before Interpretation”, Greek).
She has curated two exhibitions (2016, 2017) and since 2019 she co-curates the exhibitions of Athens Photo World.
Her work was hosted in two group exhibitions in 2025 and will be also hosted in the Street Photo Festival group exhibition “unscripted moments” in December 2025 in Athens School of Fine Arts
