Dan began his photographic career in 2002 and has travelled extensively across the EMEA region for Getty Images, where he has been a staff photographer for 18 years. As a wire photographer based in London, he has covered a wide range of subjects, including refugee crises, royal funerals, politics, conflict and climate change. His body of work is an eclectic mix, but wildlife and the natural world remain a lifelong passion. Whatever the story, he puts objectivity, veracity and a bit of levity at the heart of everything he does.
Despite the variety, be it faith based rituals in South America, such as the Qoyllur Riti in Peru, the aftermath of typhoons in SE Asia such as Typhoon Haiyan, recent conflict in the Middle East or Ukraine, people are always at the heart of Dan’s coverage. Dan recently traveled to Chad to document the many thousands of people fleeing their homeland in Darfur in Sudan for relative safety. This theme of migration has been a constant during his career and a story that will define our time. Dans work appears regularly in newspapers, magazines and websites around the world.
When not on the news beat, a theme that remains close to Dan’s heart is one centered around wildlife and conservation and in 2005, he was privileged to join a the team at the Chimpanzee Conservation Centre, CCC, in Guinea in West Africa to cover a story on the care and rehabilitation of Chimpanzees. Dans work was published widely and won him recognition at both the Picture of the Year International, and was featured at the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Natural History Museum in London.
