Since November 2020, Gainor has been the Head of Physical Production for Amazon Original Movies, overseeing films like Red One, Candy Cane Lane, and Being the Ricardos. He also advises the Amazon Studios’ Innovation Lab on industry priorities and future foresight.
Prior to Amazon, Gainor spent 14 years as Head of Physical Production for Screen Gems, contributing to successful films like The Perfect Guy and Think Like a Man . He played a crucial role in ensuring The Wedding Ringer became America’s top comedy for three weeks in 2015.
Gainor’s innovative approach merges technology, sustainability, and filmmaking. He led Sony Innovation Studios, which introduced advanced technologies for filmmakers, allowing them to scan sets and reuse digital assets. This innovation contributed to winning a Lumiere Award for the creative use of a virtual set in MIB International .
He made strides in sustainability by using Sony’s alpha 7SII cameras on productions and shooting Think Like a Man with LED lights, significantly reducing costs and environmental impact. Recognized for his efforts, Gainor received multiple awards, including the California on Location Signature Award, and helped establish eco-friendly practices in the film industry. He is also an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers.
As a producer, Gainor has been involved in over forty movies, ranging from Nicolas Cage’s directorial debut to Sundance darlings. His credited films include the box office hits Friends With Benefits and Think Like A Man , as well as the cult classic Grandma’s Boy from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison.
Gainor co-created Sony Innovation Studios, bringing advanced technologies like volumetric capture to filmmakers. His work in sustainable production practices, beginning in 2007, earned him the Environmental Media Association’s Green Seal and the LA City Council’s recognition for environmentally friendly practices.
