Molly Peters

Molly Peters is an accomplished photographer and visual storyteller currently based in Tucson, Arizona, with a body of work that explores themes of spirituality, memory, family, Indigenous rights, and environmental conservation. She holds a BA in Photography and Italian Studies from Bard College and an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School.

Raised on Martha’s Vineyard, Molly has lived in Rome, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, experiences that have fueled her insatiable curiosity and passion for storytelling. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally, known for its respectful yet mysterious and uncanny portrayal of human connection to the natural world.

Molly’s recent long-term projects focus on the intersection of spirituality, environmental conservation, and Indigenous rights. Her work reflects a deep respect and protectiveness for the people and places she photographs, often exploring how spirituality and memory intersect with the human relationship to nature.

Her visual narratives are characterised by a profound sense of connection, addressing complex topics while maintaining an empathetic and thoughtful approach.

Molly Peters’ photography has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions across cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Boston, Hartford, and Berlin. Her work has also been featured in online exhibitions, including UCR California Museum of Photography’s “Art in the Plague Year.” Her photographs are part of private collections worldwide, and one of her pieces is included in the permanent collection of the Burchfield Penney Museum in Buffalo, NY.

Her most recent photo book, “Rancho,” was self-published in March 2019. Her publications and diverse range of clients demonstrate her versatility and commitment to visual storytelling.

From 2020 to 2023, Molly was a group leader and contributor to The Journal Collective, a collaborative project uniting over 400 women photographers worldwide. She is an active member of Women Photograph and the Women’s Photo Alliance (WPA), and she served on the board of ASMP Los Angeles from 2015 to 2021, acting as Vice President in 2015 and Chapter President from 2016 to 2021. Beyond her freelance work, Molly is a mentor with the Image Threads Collective, which is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent. She has also shared her expertise as a professor of photography at Unity College, inspiring and guiding the next generation of visual storytellers.

Her photographs have been exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across prominent locations such as New York, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Boston, Hartford, and Berlin. Additionally, her work has been showcased in several online exhibitions, including “Art in the Plague Year” at the UCR California Museum of Photography.
