Sylvia Laudien-Meo

ABOUT

Sylvia Laudien-Meo is an art historian, museum educator, gallery guide and college professor. She has worked at various NYC museums for many years, leading visitor experiences for students and adults and gallery access groups. At Fairleigh Dickinson Univ., she has taught courses on the History of Photography, 19th and 10th C, and Contemporary Art, and she has been guiding visitors in NYC with a primary focus on Public Art, Architecture and Commercial Art Galleries. She has lectured and led online virtual tours in her field for the past four years.

A global perspective and interdisciplinary approach mark Sylvia’s academic journey. Born and raised in Germany, she earned her MA in Art History (with Minors in History and American Studies) from the Johannes Gutenberg Univ. in Mainz. Her academic pursuits took her to the Graduate School of Art History at Columbia Univ. during the academic year of 1989/90, where she studied on a DAAD scholarship. She also holds a DEUG in Tourism from the Ecole Supérieure de Tourisme in Paris, France.

Sylvia Laudien-Meo’s professional journey is a testament to her adaptability and versatility. She has worked as a Museum Educator at renowned institutions such as MoMA, the Jewish Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. Her teaching experience includes undergraduate college classes on the History of Photography, 20th C and 19th C. Survey Classes, Contemporary Art, and Public Art at FDU. She has also served as an Exhibition guide for Deutsche Bank at the FRIEZE Art Fair in NYC. Her client list for lectures and art tours is diverse, including the Municipal Art Society (NYC), the 92StY (NYC), the NY Adventure Club, OLLI (Osher Life Long Learning, Dominican Univ., CA), and many others.

In her teaching and guiding, Sylvia researches each topic in-depth. She approaches each discussion with her specific audience in mind, including participants’ experiences and comments, to ensure a meaningful, inspirational learning experience.
