Roger gained widespread recognition for his cinematography work on My Octopus Teacher, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2022. Roger’s collaboration with Craig Foster began in 2008 when he teamed up with Craig and Damon Foster to make Into the Dragons Lair, a story about Didier Noirot’s quest to film Nile crocodiles underwater in the Okavango Delta. Their follow-up film, Touching The Dragon, was chosen by National Geographic to be one of its 100-year centenary films.
More recently, Roger worked as a full-time Underwater Series DOP on the Netflix Our Oceans series, narrated by Barack Obama. This ambitious five-year project explores the planet’s lifeblood—the oceans—which conceal countless mysteries. From the balmy Indian waters and the fiery depths of the Atlantic to the Pacific’s volcanic Ring of Fire and the frigid Southern and Arctic seas, Our Oceans captures the majesty and complexity of the marine world in stunning detail.
In addition to his cinematographic work, Roger is a passionate mentor and educator. He founded The Ocean Footage Mastery Program, an online course and community that mentors aspiring ocean cinematographers in the craft of underwater cinematography and provides them with the tools to monetize their creativity through the power of digital leverage. This initiative reflects Roger’s dedication to empowering the next generation of image makers and ensuring the craft of ocean cinematography continues to thrive and evolve.
