The marriage of classic portrait photography and interpretive contemporary art has resulted in an exhibition titled Homage: A Tribute to Tribal Artists.
Gary Johns' Reimagining
In this section, conceptual artist Gary Johns brings a new dimension to Greg Gorman's photographs of African tribal art. Drawing on the cultural influences of these artifacts, Johns reinterprets Gorman’s iconic portraits through photography, illustration, and painting. His bold, irreverent approach adds layers of meaning, creating a dialogue between past and present that challenges traditional views and invites new perspectives on both the art and its cultural significance.
