"American Pictures" is a long-term photography project by celebrated American photographer Jeff Dunas, spanning 35 years of exploration throughout the vast middle and Southern regions of the United States, as well as certain towns along the Canadian / American border. Having resided in Paris for decades, Dunas returned to the United States with a changed perception of his native land and embarked on this journey to capture the uniquely irrepressible spirit of the people and nuances of American life that are often overlooked or taken for granted.
The project aims to reveal and appreciate the often whimsical individualism of Americans, void of any political statements or implications. Through his unique documentary-style approach, Dunas creates an intimate portrayal of the people and places that make up the American heartland, evoking themes such as identity, self-expression, culture, and the passage of time.
With this long form project, Dunas has created a unique visual narrative that connects the viewer to the rich tapestry of life across his homeland.
