Pain and Hope
On February 6, 2023, one of the world's largest earthquakes occurred. This disaster caused thousands of people to lose their lives, homes, and loved ones. This tragic destruction also affected the region's historical texture and cultural heritage.
The earthquake most severely impacted my birthplace and hometown, Antakya. The homes we lived in collapsed, and dozens of my relatives passed away. I can't even count the number of friends who died.
This exhibition documents the effects of the earthquake and the hardships faced by the people through photographs. The photos not only show the collapsed buildings and ruined streets but also highlight the people's efforts to rise again, their spirit of solidarity, and their hope.
These photographs depict a disaster and the resilience of a city and its people. Each frame reflects human stories and the struggle for survival, where pain and hope coexist in this challenging process.
We dedicate this exhibition to the memory of those who lost their lives in the earthquake and to the resilience of those who survived. Our aim is to prevent the tragedy from being forgotten, draw attention to the suffering, and contribute to the rebuilding process.
