With No Ithaca Awaiting
With No Ithaca Awaiting explores the boundaries between photojournalism and documentary through portrayals of human mobility within Mexico. Focusing on migrants, the project engages with their emotional and physical experiences as they navigate sociopolitical barriers in search of improved living conditions.
The work visualises a state of limbo that exists between geography and the body, tracing the transformations that unfold from day to night and reflecting the journey itself across Mexico’s northern and southern borders. Inspired by 17th-century pictorial traditions, the project employs direct photography to convey the sensitivity, resilience, and courage of individuals displaced by marginalisation, climate change, and violence.
The title, Sin Ítaca que aguarde (With No Ithaca Awaiting), is drawn from the poem Peregrino by Luis Cernuda. The phrase evokes a journey without a fixed destination—a continuous passage marked by uncertainty rather than arrival.
Through light and carefully observed moments, the project seeks to reveal the human stories behind statistics, foregrounding the complexity and dignity present within each image.
