In 2024, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography with The Associated Press, recognition that cemented his place among the leading voices in contemporary photojournalism. His work has been widely published and exhibited across the Americas and Europe.
For over a decade, Félix Márquez has dedicated himself to documenting the war against drug trafficking in Mexico, the struggles of migration, and the defence of human rights. His photographs offer an unflinching yet compassionate lens on communities caught in cycles of violence and displacement, particularly focusing on children and families affected by these crises. His long-term commitment to these subjects reflects not only journalistic rigour but also a deep sense of responsibility towards the people he photographs.
His career has been recognised with some of the most prestigious awards in visual journalism. In 2024, his coverage of migration for The Associated Press earned the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. In 2023, he was awarded first place in the “Single News” category at POY Latam. Beyond his assignments, Félix is dedicated to creating platforms for dialogue and education in the field of visual journalism. He is the founder of the Mirar Distinto Photo Festival. This initiative fosters exchange among photographers, editors, and audiences with a focus on human rights, social justice, and migration narratives. This project highlights his belief that photography should not only document but also spark conversation and action.
Félix is also the author of Testigo de la Violencia, a book that chronicles years of coverage of violence in Mexico. Combining searing imagery with powerful storytelling, the book stands as a testimony to the role of photography in both preserving memory and confronting collective trauma.
His work has been exhibited widely across the Americas and Europe, reflecting both its journalistic importance and artistic value. Whether published in leading international outlets or displayed in galleries, Félix’s photographs engage audiences with the urgent realities of Latin America. His ability to balance immediacy with empathy has made him one of the most respected independent voices in contemporary photojournalism.
