Bob Miller - Xposure

Bob Miller

Bob Miller is an American photographer and filmmaker. His interest in documentary emerged in 2007 when, as a naive art student, he stumbled into an international news story with a second-hand Nikon and 42 rolls of film. In the years following, his visual voice took shape – first inspired by the study of graphic design, then refined by graduate work in photojournalism.

These complementary paths merged in 2011 when Bob joined a multidisciplinary team at Slaughter Group, a creative agency in the American South, where he crafted authentic stories to promote reputable brands and led nonprofit storytelling initiatives. Since returning to freelance in 2013, Bob has lensed and directed documentary-style content in over a dozen countries.

As a still photographer, Bob regularly produces independent photographic works that explore contemporary social issues. These works have been recognized, published and exhibited internationally.

As an Emmy-nominated cinematographer, director and and creative producer, he extends the same journalistic ethos in collaborations with agencies, brands and nonprofits – leading with curiosity to craft stories that challenge and inspire audiences.

Regardless of the medium, he is motivated by a singular truth in documentary practice: how we see the world ultimately shapes it. Within the concrete permanence of the still frame lies a spiritual and emotional mobility – a voice capable of stirring the gamut of human emotions. This voice, the photograph, is a record of praise for our greatest victories, and accountability for our darkest moments. And it is the role of the storyteller to reveal it all the better. Bob lives in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife and four children. He welcomes collaborations from any corner of the world.
