Eric Bouvet was born in Paris in 1961.
After studying graphic arts and industries at the École Estienne in Paris, he joined the prestigious Agence Gamma as a photographer in 1981.
From 1990, he worked on his own subjects as a freelancer. He will witness many international events: Omeyra in Colombia, Tien An Men, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the break-up of the USSR, the Velvet Revolution in Prague, the Olympic Games in Seoul, the funeral of Khomeini and of Rajiv Gandhi, the liberation of Mandela, the Arab revolutions, etc…
He is the only journalist to have worked with Russian commandos. From this unpublished report, carried out in Chechnya in 1995, he will write a book which will be used to create a play: “Jusqu’au bout”.
His reports are published in the biggest international magazines: Time, Life, Newsweek, Paris-Match, Sunday-Time Magazine, Stern, New-York Times, Der Spiegel, Geo, Figaro Magazine…
For several years, he has turned to more documentary photography, more contemporary in inspiration. In 2017, he began with the agreement of the Ministry of Culture, a ten-year long societal subject on the meaning of being French.
