Ingmar björn Nolting

Ingmar Björn Nolting, born in 1995, is a freelance photographer based in Leipzig, Germany, renowned for his evocative and thought-provoking visual storytelling. He holds a BA in Photography from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Nolting has received significant acclaim for his long-term projects, which have won him prestigious awards such as the Getty Reportage Grant, Leica Society International Grant, World Report Award, and VG Bildkunst Grant.

As a regular contributor to The New York Times, Nolting’s work has also been featured in other leading publications, including TIME, The Washington Post, Le Monde, and Der Spiegel. He holds a scholarship from the German Art Fund, further establishing his reputation in the contemporary photography scene.

Nolting is a founding member of the DOCKS Collective, a group of photographers committed to humanist and documentary photography that addresses pressing social, political, and cultural issues. The collective emphasises collaborative storytelling, allowing members to present in-depth narratives that engage with the complexities of modern society.

DOCKS deeply dives into long-term projects, examining migration, identity, environmental change, and social inequalities. Ingmar’s role in the collective underscores his dedication to producing empathetic, impactful work that resonates on both personal and societal levels, contributing to a broader understanding of human experiences across diverse communities.

In his recent projects, Ingmar Björn Nolting focuses on capturing the evolving moods and conditions of German society, using his restrained, stage-like images to explore complex interconnections between environment, politics, and social dynamics. His photography poetically documents Germany’s transformation amidst division, rearmament, the pandemic, and the climate crisis, offering intimate and panoramic views of the nation’s changing landscape.
