Marco Ronconi

Marco Ronconi is an Italian nature photographer and independent publisher whose emotionally resonant imagery combines fine art and environmental narrative. Born in 1984 and based in northern Italy,

Ronconi is the founder of Kamui Editions and the author of Chiaro Scuro and Hueco Mundo. His photography, often characterised by monochromatic and minimalist aesthetics, explores light, shadow, and stillness with a refined sensibility. His work has been exhibited across Europe and is noted for its contemplative mood, philosophical depth, and quiet celebration of the natural world.

Marco Ronconi’s path to photography emerged from a desire to convey the emotional essence of a place rather than merely document it. His creative voice found its form through nature and wildlife, where solitude and silence could be translated into imagery. He favours simplicity, negative space, and muted tones—often working in monochrome or desaturated palettes—to create compositions that are suggestive rather than descriptive.

In 2020, he founded Kamui Editions, a publishing house dedicated to producing high-quality photographic books. His first title, Chiaro Scuro, introduced a bold visual language that fused darkness and light to reveal the unseen aspects of the natural world. His second book, Hueco Mundo, continued this exploration, shifting to themes of absence, emptiness, and spatial stillness.

Ronconi’s work has been published widely and presented in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe. He regularly collaborates with printmakers and gear specialists, remaining dedicated to the physicality of photography through print. Whether working in mist, snow, or twilight, his visual narratives offer space for reflection and reveal the deeper emotional layers of landscapes and wildlife.

Ronconi approaches photography as a subtractive art, focusing on what is omitted to amplify what remains. His images often present a delicate tension between presence and absence, utilising elements such as fog, darkness, and silence as compositional tools. Rather than concentrating on particular species or locations, his vision revolves around the relationships between opposites—light and shadow, fullness and emptiness, motion and stillness.

Guided by a minimalist aesthetic and a strong sense of introspection, Ronconi’s work resists spectacle and instead seeks to express the soul of a place. His photographic style draws influence from Eastern visual traditions, particularly in his restrained use of colour and his emphasis on suggestion over clarity. This approach invites viewers to slow down, observe, and engage emotionally with the subject matter.

For Ronconi, the act of photographing is meditative and instinctive. It is less about documentation and more about interpreting mood and presence. He considers the printing process an essential part of storytelling, transforming the image into a tactile, timeless object. His books and prints serve not just as records but as invitations—to feel, to contemplate, and to dwell in the quieter spaces of the natural world.

Ronconi’s most recognised works include his books Chiaro Scuro and Hueco Mundo, both published under his independent label. His images have been exhibited in galleries across Italy and Europe and are known for their subdued intensity and meditative quality. Through collaborations with fine art paper manufacturers and equipment makers, he continues to champion high standards in photographic printing and presentation. Ronconi’s minimalist aesthetic has made him a respected voice in contemporary nature photography, with a growing audience drawn to the depth and emotional stillness present in his work.
