Marie-France ZUMAQUERO was born in Paris, France, in 1959. She is a self-taught photographer who travels across all five continents, capturing the emotions of her discoveries: flora and fauna, and especially the people and their customs.
Through various exhibitions, slide shows, and her books, she shares her passion.
A proponent of black-and-white reportage, she is also fascinated by the colours of the Camargue marshes (a natural region in France), which inspired her series “Lignes de vie.”
Originally from Paris, France, Marie-France ZUMAQUERO has been living in Provence, in the south of France, for 25 years. The brilliant light of this region has profoundly enchanted her, particularly the landscapes of the salt marshes of Camargue. These marshes, where water and sun meet harmoniously, are the result of centuries of salt exploitation. They illustrate how human activities can coexist with nature, creating a delicate yet sustainable balance.
The salt marshes play a crucial role not only in preserving biodiversity but also in supporting the local economy. The natural scenes they offer are living works of art, shaped by the work of salt workers, the artisans who maintain this centuries-old tradition.
To capture the beauty of this unique environment, Marie-France takes photographs from a small plane, allowing her to see and immortalise the beauty of the marshes from a new perspective. This aerial viewpoint reveals the complexity and diversity of colours that make the salt marshes of the Camargue a fascinating and inspiring place.
