Mario Heller is a Swiss photographer based in Berlin. He explores the relationship between social structures and cultural backgrounds. After initially working as a pastry chef, he transitioned to professional photography in 2015. His work encompasses reportages and portraits, and he has been featured in various magazines, newspapers, and exhibitions globally. He also collaborates with NGOs and commercial clients. His reportages were recognized by the Swiss Press Photo Award with exhibitions in 2015, 2016, and 2017. He received the Lens Culture Critic’s Choice Award in 2023 and was selected for the Hamburg Portfolio Review in 2021 and 2023.
Beyond photography, Mario has significant experience as a photo editor. He was employed at Bild am Sonntag, Europe’s largest Sunday newspaper, from 2018 to 2020, working on its visual content and collaborating with international photographers. Since 2021, he has been a photo editor and photographer for Berlin’s Tagesspiegel. He is also in charge as Photography Director at LOLA Magazine since 2019, overseeing its photography and curating Berlin-focused stories.
In 2022, Mario became a full member of Panos Pictures.
