Pedro Jarque Krebs

Pedro Jarque Krebs is a photographer born in Lima, Peru, specializing in animal portraits.
He graduated from the Sorbonne University in Paris, France, with a degree in Philosophy of Sciences, and studied Art History and Archaeology at the University of Paris IV.

In 1984 he won the first prize for black and white photography from the Municipality of Lima, Peru.
Since then, Pedro Jarque has received more than 200 awards and recognitions worldwide, 56 gold medals

Among them stand out the international competition “Sony World Photography Awards”, which he has won 5 consecutive times and whose Peru National First Prize he has won 2 times in 2018 and 2019; overall winner of the “Bird Photographer of the Year” (BPOTY) contest in the UK in 2018; Montier Festival Photo (France) in 2018; Oasis Photo Contest (Italy) in 2017; Sente Cup (China) in 2018 or Siena Creative Awards 2020 and 2021. He has been for 6 consecutive years a finalist in the annual Smithsonian Institution (USA) photography competition.

In October 2016 he was named photographer of the month in France by National Geographic magazine. In 2022 he was one of the finalists in the prestigious ‘Hasselblad Masters competition in the wildlife category.

He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions internationally, among them the solo exhibition at the Embassy of Peru in Washington (USA) in 2019, The Pingyao International Photography Festival in China in 2018, the solo show “The other refugees” at the Siena Awards festival in Italy in 2020, portraying the faces of a group of chimpanzees rescued in a sanctuary and in 2021 the exhibition “Animalia” in Siena.

Pedro Jarque’s work is also permanently exhibited in Yellow Korner’s 130 galleries around the world.

In February 2022 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Madrid Zoo and in collaboration with the Madrid Metro in Spain, a permanent exhibition of Pedro Jarque’s work was inaugurated at the ‘Casa de Campo’ Metro station in Madrid, with murals on both metro platforms and in the station lobby, featuring portraits of the animals that are part of the European Endangered Species Program.

In 2019 the German publisher teNeues published the 220-page book “FRAGILE” in 4 languages, featuring the work of Pedro Jarque and which has won 5 international photography book awards, including the gold medal at the International Photography Awards (IPA) in 2020 and Book Photographer of the Year on “PX3 Prix de la Photographie de Paris” in 2021.

Pedro Jarque’s book ‘Fragile’ was recommended by National Geographic Traveller magazine (UK) in November 2019.
